On Sunday August 15th St Joseph's CAFOD group and about twenty-wo  parishioners met to walk the Year  of Mercy pilrimage for the world's sixty plus million refugees . Our parish priest ,  Fr Paul Haines , joined us . We were inspired by a deep mutual concern for the terrible plight of those displaced by war , famine  and persecution . We wanted to make a special prayer vigil for them , and were further inspired by the very moving prayers and powerpoint  pictures on the CAFOD site .

We created a display board with  the pictures and placed it in front of the altar beside the Lampadusa Cross which we were priveliged to borrow .

With Helen leading carrying  the cross , we did two stages in the church grounds and five in church . We followed CAFOD's  suggested format closely .

We all had tea and cakes in the hall afterwards with many people saying how  moving they had found the pilgrimage. They  were visibly touched .

We didn't do any fundraising that day because we wanted to focus on the prayerful support of the refugees .

As a group we are very proud of our achievement for the refugees .
